We are excited to announce that shows will resume for the Maryland open horse show series with protocols in place. Listed below are the show series protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. Failure to adhere to these rules may mean forfeiture of any ribbons, show fees and being asked to leave the grounds.
When you arrive, please come straight to entry to have your temperature taken and fill out your COVID-19 release form. This form must be signed by each participant (unless under the age of nine) and their parent.
Only one non-riding member may accompany a participant.
Six foot distancing will be required by all participants from others that are not family members. This will include horses that are tied to the fence or trailers. Care must be taken to keep a six foot distance from others while mounted.
Due to the new order from Governor Hogan, masks are to be worn anytime you are on the parking side of the ring. We want to be able to keep having horse shows so please make sure everyone is wearing their masks. Masks are excused when mounted. Gloves are required for our riders.
We ask that all participants and their families wait at the trailer areas with their horse until their class is called.
There will be cones set to wait at for trail class. No large groups waiting at the fence allowed. We will have copies of your trail course available so you don't need to stand at the fence to see it. Trail will open 30 min prior to the show start time for leadline and mini short stirrup riders.
We discourage our riders from sharing tack and brushes. If you need to share, please do so at your own risk.
A food booth will be available, but the show series will NOT have any items for sale. Menu coming soon.
There will be water for horses available in the tank near the bathrooms. Please use this to fill your own bucket at your own risk. Buckets to share will not be available.
MOHSS will be charging a $10.00 show fee for each rider. Classes will be split if they have 16 or more riders. There will be no cake walk. Without knowing what the future will look like we are not going to track series points from each show. We will still be placing classes, awarding ribbons, and doing day of champion and reserve champion. We do not know how many shows we will get to have so there will be no memberships this year. Class fees will be $12 per class for everyone.
Please visit our October 4th Entry page for instructions on how to enter our show. All entries must be in before October 1st so please enter as soon as you can. Use the button below to take you to the entry page.
The class order has been changed so that all of your classes will be in a row. This will allow rider to come and go and not have to stay all day. There will also be a second clear round to allow afternoon riders to have a chance to warm up that will not begin before 10:30am. If possible, please leave the show grounds when you have finished showing. Please click below to see the new order.
Portapotty‘s are available on the grounds. Please use them at your own risk. There will be a disinfectant spray available to use before and after entering.
Please bring your own pitchfork and bucket to collect hay and manure from around your trailer. We will not have the pitchfork and wheelbarrow out for the public to use. If your horse poops in the parking area somewhere other than around your trailer you are still responsible for cleaning it up.
You may either wear a show shirt or another collared shirt such as a polo. Feel free to use a colored square pad and colorful gloves as well. We are encouraging our riders to have a little fun and show us some color! All normal tack rules still apply.
We understand that there are a lot of changes being made to our shows. Please be patient with us as we work through all of them. Our biggest priority is keeping everyone safe. If you have any questions regarding protocols or about our September show please email Marylandopenhorseshow@gmail.com
